The Meaning of Chicago.
My friends from the northern part of the state will probably hate me for this, but having grown up downstate Illinois most of my life I really don't care. I read a book last month that was filled with little tidbits of trivia about Illinois. The thing I most enjoyed discovering was that Chicago is named after the grass that grew in the area when white settlers first arrived. There are 39 variations of the spelling, but Chicago literally means "stinking weed".
