ANNE OF GREEN GABLES: A GRAPHIC NOVEL is an adaptation of L.M. Montgomery's beloved novel that presents the story of Anne in a way that
makes it easier for younger readers to enjoy and relate. Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are a brother
and sister who live and work together on their family farm. They decide to
adopt and orphan boy to help out with the work on the farm. However, when
Matthew goes to pick up their new ward he discovers that the orphanage has not
sent a boy, but a girl: a vibrant, free-spirited, red-haired girl by the name
of Anne Shirley. This is the story of Anne's life with the Cuthberts. While
this adaptation does hit on most of the key moments in the original novel, like
any adaptation, there are some changes. This particular adaptation focuses more
on the key scenes from the novel and Anne's relationship to Matthew and Marilla
Cuthbert and Diana Barry. Overall, I enjoyed ANNE OF GREEN GABLES: A GRAPHIC
NOVEL, particularly the illustrations. I almost always prefer the original text
to adaptations, but this is an excellent adaptation of the original novel that
captures the spirit of the story.
