BIG NATE: BLOW THE ROOF OFF! by Lincoln Peirce

The continuing middle school adventures of Nate Wright (aka Big Nate) continue in BIG NATE: BLOW THE ROOF OFF! Honestly, the strongest storyline in this book is that Nate’s summer crush, Trudy, is the new girl at Nate’s school. Nate is so excited. However, there’s a slight problem: Trudy is in the 7th grade and Nate is a 6th grader. There are a few other storylines in this collection, but the majority of the stories in the collection revolve around Nate & Trudy. BIG NATE: BLOW THE ROOF OFF! Includes a pull-out poster of the book’s cover.

Review: BIG NATE SILENT BUT DEADLY by Lincoln Peirce

Nate Wright is back again in another collection of “Big Nate” comics. In BIG NATE SILENT BUT DEADLY, Nate gets into lots of different shenanigans and comes up with several different schemes. Nate has an uncanny sense of smell and hires himself out as the Great Nose-ini to make a few extra dollars, he becomes the movie reviewer for the school newspaper, he once again wins Monopoly on New Year’s Eve against his friends, and he plays on his school’s basketball team. Personally, I think my favorite comics in the book are the ones at the very end when Nate visits the local comic book shop and runs into a guy in a Yoda mask and an old man sitting on a bench that talks to a puppet. BIG NATE SILENT BUD DEADLY includes a pull-out poster of the book’s cover.

BIG NATE GOES BANANAS! by Lincoln Peirce

The misadventures of middle schooler Nate Wright continue in BIG NATE GOES BANANAS! Some of the storylines in this book include Nate’s baseball team changing its name from the Creampuffs to the Cupcakes, Nate’s sister, Ellen, being asked on a date by Nik Fletcher (the captain of the hockey team), Coach John subbing for Mrs. Godfrey during the last couple weeks of school, Nate being “watched” by his Uncle Ted while Nate’s dad is out of town on business, and Nate spending time on the beach during summer break and running into School Picture Guy. The "Big Nate" comics have gotten better over time and this is a nice collection of them. When purchased new, this book contains a "Big Nate" poster of the book’s cover.

Book: BIG NATE: WHAT'S A LITTLE NOOGIE BETWEEN FRIENDS

WHAT'S A LITTLE NOOGIE BETWEEN FRIENDS is another collection of "Big Nate" comics. There's the usual Big Nate hijinks, but some of the storylines include Nate trying to take a decent school picture, his soccer team suffering a humiliating defeat, his dream girl Jenny moving to Seattle, and Nate trying to make an invention to make him super rich. I enjoy reading "Big Nate" comics, but I'm not a huge fan. They have pretty good storylines that capture much of the comedy and tragedy of the middle-school years. It's light, but entertaining comic reading.

Book Review: BIG NATE: A GOOD OLD-FASHIONED WEDGIE

Lincoln Peirce's continuing misadventures of middle schooler Nate Wright continue in BIG NATE: A GOOD OLD-FASHIONED WEDGIE.  In this collection, some of the storylines include Francis really annoying everyone with his strict adherence to grammar; Chad's grandma puts him on a strict diet;  Nate's grandpa comes to stay with him and his dad while grandma is on a senior bus trip; Nate's baseball team gets a new pitcher that turns out to be a girl he has a crush on; and Jenny moves back from Seattle and Nate sets his sights on gaining her affection, even though she immediately begins dating Artur. The "Big Nate" comics have gotten better over time and this is a nice collection of them. When purchased new, this book contains a "Big Nate" poster.

Book Review: BIG NATE: THE CROWD GOES WILD!

The "Big Nate" books follow eleven-year-old, sixth grader Nate Wright. He might not do well in school and he spends a lot of time in detention, but Nate's a bright kid. He just can't seem to keep his mouth shut and says the wrong thing. He also thinks very highly of himself.  In BIG NATE: THE CROWD GOES WILD! we find Nate and his friends trying to enter the "Battle of the Bands" competition,  Nate spending time with his book buddy (Peter), Nate and his friends selling wrapping paper for his Scout troop, and Nate and his friends spending part of his summer at the beach. Overall, BIG NATE: THE CROWD GOES WILD! is a fun read.
