Although he might not be the greatest actor in the world, I've always liked Mel Gibson. He got his start more as an action hero, but he has a lot more depth as a performer than many action heroes do. He's also one hell of a director (and one of my favorites). Gibson hasn't been employed by a studio in ten years. Granted, he's an alcoholic and said some really terrible things. However, I just think it's unreasonable that a person of Gibson's talent has been ostracized for so long. I mean, for instance, one of Hollywood's favorite directors is a child molester who can't enter the U.S. because of the federal warrant for his arrest. What Mel did said was terrible, but they were just words with no intent or action to support them.
Allison Hope Weiner posted an opinion piece at Deadline.com on Tuesday about Gibson. It's a great article that you can read here. I don't know if it will change anyone's mind, but I sure hope so. I'd like to see Gibson in a big budget movie again or see that long planned Maccabees film.

THE BEAVER trailer
This movie could be a complete flop, but I still want to see it. I've watched more bizarre films in the past than this.

THE BEAVER a Movie Starring Mel Gibson
Here's the movie poster for THE BEAVER. A movie directed by Jodi Foster which stars Mel Gibson as a mentally-unstable man who wears a beaver puppet on his hand that he treats as a real person.Due to Gibson's very public break-up with and outburst against his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Gigorieva, the movie might never be released in the U.S. However, it is going to be released overseas and the following poster was recently released as publicity for the movie.
I'm hoping that the movie will be seen in the U.S. if nothing else as a direct-to-DVD title. Mel's a messed-up man, but he's still a good actor with some decent comedic chops. I know a lot of people in Hollywood view him as poison, but that's not a consensus with the American public. Gibson has been a box office boon for cinema for decades. He's someone the American public loves. He's like the crazy uncle that everyone loves, even if they just love to hate him. He's become a kind of living embodiment of Archie Bunker and the public loved Archie. I think with the right marketing THE BEAVER will be a box office smash. The title alone is going to bring in the teenage-boy crowd.
