Graphic Novel Review: LEGO NINJAGO #11: COMET CRISIS

LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #11: COMET CRISIS tells the story of what happened during the time Jay, Cole, Zane & Kai were abandoned on a comet before they were able to make it make to Ninjago. The quartet believes they are alone on the giant space rock, but it soon becomes clear they are not. Appearances are deceiving and distrust grows among the group as they fight a foe they have never encountered before. I enjoyed LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #11: COMET CRISIS. It was nice reading a story where the quartet was taken away from all that is familiar and fighting a completely new foe. For those who are fans of the tv show, this book makes a good companion piece.

Graphic Novel Review: LEGO NINJAGO #10: WHO IS THE PHANTOM NINJA?

The small and once quiet village of Nom has been overtaken by an army of Ninroids. The Masters of Spinjitsu arrive and believe the Overlord is up to no good. However, when they attempt to discover what exactly is going on they run into the Phantom Ninja. The Phantom Ninja seems to be a friend, but could possibly be a foe in disguise. So, the Masters of Spinjitsu must concoct a plan that will not only allow them to discover the motives of the Phantom Ninja, but also destroy the Ninroids in Nom. Overall, LEGO NINJAGO #10: WHO IS THE PHANTOM NINJA? is a great addition to the Lego Ninjago graphic novel stories.

Graphic Novel Review: LEGO: NINJAGO MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #9: NIGHT OF THE NINDROIDS

Based upon the hit series LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU that airs on the Cartoon Network, LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #9: NIGHT OF THE NINDROIDS centers around Zane. Zane is actually a robot (I did not know this until reading this comic). While scouting out Ninjago City, the Overlord approaches Zane with an offer: he will transfer his mind into the body of a real person so that he can be human if Zane helps the Overlord capture the rest of the Masters of Spinjitzu. Zane isn't sure what to do. He likes his friends, but he wants to be able to understand jokes, to taste food, and have feelings. The dark side is so appealing.

LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #9: NIGHT OF THE NINDROIDS is a book written towards those who are already fans of the cartoon series. I had read previous graphic novels in this series, but this book doesn't exactly follow what happened before in the graphic novels. I mean, in #8: DESTINY OF DOOM the Garmadon helped the Masters defeat a robot he created when he was evil. There's only a brief mention of that in this book and that's when Lloyd, the Green Ninja (he was gold in the last book) decides to go visit his dad, Garmadon, and try to spend some quality time together. So, although LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #9: NIGHT OF THE NINDROIDS is an interesting story, I am disappointing that this series of the graphic novels no longer is following an overarching plot: I liked it when the graphic novels followed in line with each other better.

Overall, if you're a fan of the animated tv show LEGO: NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU, you might enjoy this book. However, if you're unfamiliar with the series, you might want to skip this book and read on of the earlier one.

Graphic Novel Review: LEGO: NINJAGO MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #8: DESTINY OF DOOM

Based upon the hit series LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU that airs on the Cartoon Network, LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #8: DESTINY OF DOOM features the return of Garmadon. Purged of the evil that was in him, Garmadon is back to his former self before he was poisoned by the serpents evil venom. However, a weapon he created while he was evil, that would destroy the world should he ever be destroyed, threatens to destroy all of Ninjago. Only Garmadon knows the weapon's secrets, but neither Garmadon's son, Lloyd, or the Masters of Spinjitzu (Jay, Cole, Zane, and Kai) will let Garmadon fight alone. LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #8: DESTINY OF DOOM is a book written towards those who are already fans of the cartoon series. I had read the previous graphic novel in this series, but this book doesn't exactly follow what happened before in the graphic novels. Instead, LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #8: DESTINY OF DOOM is a direct sequel to the end of the second season of the LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU animated series.

Graphic Novel Review: LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #7: STONE COLD

Based upon the hit series LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU that airs on the Cartoon Network, LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #7: STONE COLD begins after LEGO NINJAGO: MASTERS OF SPINJITZU #6: WARRIORS OF STONE. Jay, Cole, Zane, and Kai are all exhausted after each taking on a stone warrior and after each being defeated. At the end of the day, Sensei Wu reveals to his students the real reason he brought them together and tells them about his past, hoping that the story will strengthen them and encourage them for the battles to come. The illustrations are really colorful and look like an animated cartoon instead of panels from a graphic novel. I’m looking forward to the further adventures of the Masters of Spinjitzu in the next volume of the series.

Graphic Novel Review: LEGO NINJAGO #6: WARRIORS OF STONE

After the previous installment in the graphic novel series (LEGO NINJAGO #5: KINGDOM OF THE SNAKES), the Spinjitzu masters, Jay, Cole, Zane, Kai, and Sensei Wu are left to travel on foot without the Weapons of Spinjitzu and without their powers. In LEGO NINJAGO #6: WARRIORS OF STONE they come across a forest made entirely of stone. At first they believe it to be some artistic masterpiece. However, it becomes clear that there is some kind of enchantment at work that has turned the forest to stone and it’s up to the Masters of Spinjitzu to discover exactly what that is. I was really impressed by the quality of this graphic novel. The illustrations are really colorful and look like an animated cartoon instead of panels from a graphic novel. I was also surprised at how good the story was. I wasn’t expecting a graphic novel about Lego ninjago warriors to keep my interest so well; I thought it would be kind of a kiddie version of MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS with Legos. Instead, it was more like the original TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES. I’m looking forward to reading the next volume in the series.
