BUNI: HAPPNIESS IS A STATE OF MIND by Ryan Pagelow

Buni is a rabbit that always keeps a positive outlook on life. He loves the world and life, but the world in which he lives is constantly trying to hurt or kill him: whether it's killer teddy bears, cupcakes, unicorns, or zombies. BUNI: HAPPINESS IS A STATE OF MIND is dark and twisted, yet humorous. It's not a comic that will appeal to everyone, but for those who do connect with it, they will find it quite humorous.

Book Review: BINGE PARENTING by Rick Kirkman and Jerry Scott

BINGE PARENTING is the 34th collection of "Baby Blues" comics. It contains all of the "Baby Blues" comics published from January 3, 2016 – December 31, 2016. The comics chronicle the ongoing adventures of the MacPherson family as Darryl and Wanda (the dad and mom) attempt to keep ahead of their three children: Zoe, Hammie, and Wren.  The strip remains fresh and is a simple joy to read.

Book Review: OH, BROTHER! BRAT ATTACK!

OH, BROTHER! BRAT ATTACK! is a comic collection of the “Oh, Brother!” comic strips that ran from June 2010 – August 2011. The strip features sister Lily and her younger brother Bud. The hijinks the siblings find themselves in are reminiscent of comics from the 1940s – early 1960s. The style of the strips are very simplistic and also evoke a retro-feel of strips from 1960s. Lily is the more sensible of the siblings and Bud is the wilder of the two. Despite their differences, Lily and Bud love each other very much and their affection towards each other can be easily seen.  I enjoyed reading OH, BROTHER! BRAT ATTACK! and hope more of the “Oh, Brother!” comics will be collected in book form.

Lazy Is Smart - Review of OPTIMISM SOUNDS EXHAUSTING

OPTIMISM SOUNDS EXHAUSTING is a collection of Dilbert comic strips. These strips originally appeared in newspapers from July 21, 2014 – August 1, 2015. All of the strips are printed in color. Other than a few glimmers here and there, “Dilbert” had lost much of its original charm.  However, in the past couple years, “Dilbert” has regained much of its earlier glory. There’s a lot more to be made fun of in the workplace now than even just five years ago.

Comic Review: THE BLACK HOOD #4: THE BULLET'S KISS, CHAPTER FOUR

In THE BLACK HOOD #4: THE BULLET'S KISS, CHAPTER THREE, Officer Greg Hettinger confronts two of The Connection's major henchmen in a cemetery. The fight doesn't go well for either side, but The Black Hood is unmasked in the conflict and Hettinger's real identity is revealed. Wounded and with the police hot on his trail, Hettinger is forced to leave the scene and his assailants are captured. He knows he only has a limited amount of time to find The Connection and get his revenge before he's hunted down and killed by The Connection himself. His circumstances force Hettinger to take drastic actions and seek help from those he trusts the most. The story keeps getting better and I look forward to the next chapter of The Bullet's Kiss. The end of the comic includes an essay about the problem of graft and corruption in Philadelphia.

Comic Review: THE BLACK HOOD #3: THE BULLET'S KISS, CHAPTER THREE

In THE BLACK HOOD #3: THE BULLET'S KISS, CHAPTER THREE, after being framed for drug possession, Officer Greg Hettinger fully embraces his alter-ego as The Black Hood and begins full-force vigilantism, seeking to locate man (known as The Connection) ultimately responsible for framing him. Slowly he begins to unravel the names of the drug-cartel ladder until it leads him to a cemetery and his most violent confrontation, yet.  I really enjoyed THE BLACK HOOD #3: THE BULLET'S KISS, CHAPTER THREE and found it to be the best chapter in the series, yet. I'm looking forward to more in the tale of The Bullet's Kiss. The comic has a short essay at the end about crime in real-world Philadelphia and the difficult in finding people to report criminals and criminal activity.
